Dublin squatters remain at property after day-long standoff

Residents say about 30 people live at the abandoned property.

RESIDENTS OF A Dublin city squatted property look set to remain there for another night after a day in which workers attempted to erect fences at the site.

Squatters at the Grangegorman site say workers arrived in vans and started building a fence around one of the buildings.

The complex is abandoned and the squatters say about 30 people live there.

A video of the squatters, workers and a number of gardaí wrestling at a fence was shared widely online today.

A Facebook campaign called Resist Grangegorman Eviction was also started with local businesses supplying the residents with food.

This evening, as the garda helicopter hovered overhead, workers left the site.
