GREECE HAS HELD what it has called “productive and substantive” telephone talks with European Union and International Monetary Fund leaders.
According to Reuters, the Greek Finance Ministry issued a statement shortly after the conference call finished to say discussions will resume on Tuesday evening.
The talks included mission chiefs from the European Commission, the IMF and the ECB, as well as Greek Finance Minister Evangalos Venizelos and some of his senior officials.
The call was held just hours after Venizelos promised his country would turn a budget surplus next year.
It also came after the bailed-out country’s international lenders insisted it reduce the size of its public sector and improve its tax collection.
The IMF representative in Greece Bob Traa told an economic conference that the ball is in the Greek court but “implementation is of the essence”.
