MICHAEL HEALY RAE was giving his reaction to Budget 2017 in the Dáil this evening when he was interrupted by a blast from the past.

The Independent Kerry TD was nearing the end of his speech on the Budget when the familiar monophonic jingle of a Nokia ringtone rang through the chamber.

The culprit? Well just to the right of Healy Rae we can see a hand reach into a jacket pocket to silence the offending device.

And who else sits next to Michael Healy Rae other than his brother Danny.

Healy Rae didn’t miss a beat though and continued on with his speech.

He was detailing the troubles being faced by rural Ireland and criticised the Government for its delays in establishing a Department for Rural and Regional Affairs.

Healy Rae welcomed measures for rural Ireland in the Budget but just as his brother’s phone went off he was criticising the Government for “dragging their feet” on the issue of post offices.

That’s when the phone kicked in.

“It is simply not good enough if we lose our post office network and it would be the final coffin in the nail of rural Ireland,” said Healy Rae, as Danny stuck his phone on silent.

Wonder what model it was?
