House set on fire while woman and three children inside

Flammable liquid was poured through the letterbox and set alight.

FLAMMABLE LIQUID WAS poured through the letterbox of a Belfast home and set alight this morning while three young girls were in the house.

Detectives are appealing for information in relation to the arson attack which happened at 6.20am at a house on Ormeau Embankment.

Police and fire crew attended and the fire was extinguished.

Three young children inside 

A woman, aged in her 30s, and the three young girls who were in the house at the time were not injured, but left shaken by their ordeal.

Damage was caused to the inside and outside of the front door as a result of the fire.

Detective Sergeant Natalie McNally is appealing for anyone who was in the area of Ormeau Embankment who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives at Musgrave Police Station on 101 quoting reference number 315 of 13/08/16.

Information can also be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
