GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING after a sexual education DVD aimed at primary school children was found to contain ‘inappropriate’ material.

The DVD, part of the Busy Bodies resource series, was viewed by a primary school teacher before being shown to students.

Busy Bodies is a booklet and DVD aimed at children in fifth and sixth class of primary school approaching adolescence.

The teacher reported what they had seen and the school in question duly informed the HSE last Thursday.

The HSE then relayed its concerns to the Department of Education and the gardaí, who are now investigating.

The DVD itself is to be removed from circulation until an internal investigation is complete.

No children viewed the material in question before it was pulled.

The HSE says that, as far as can be told, the material in question applies to a single copy of the DVD only.

“We are concerned about this report,” said HSE programme lead for sexual health and crisis pregnancy Helen Deely.

“As well as reporting this to the gardaí, we have commenced a comprehensive investigation into how this happened,” she said.

As a precaution, the HSE is writing to all schools and recipients of the resource, asking that they be returned to schools by parents, and removed from use and circulation until the investigation is complete.
