ON THE EVENING of 21 November 2010 Brian Cowen and Brian Lenihan presided over a hastily convened press conference after the late finance minister had confirmed that Ireland had asked for the EU and the IMF for a bailout.

The IMF had begun formal talks with the government a few days earlier over the shape of the package needed by Ireland, and there were warnings of job losses and pay cuts as a result of the bailout.

On 28 November a bailout deal was reached between Ireland, the EU, the IMF and the ECB. Here’s a look back at some images of that extraordinary time…
