There are people running as independent candidates who can't spell 'independent'

Dear oh dear…

NO ONE SAYS you have to be able to spell to be a politician but it’s a reasonable expectation that if you are running as an independent candidate that you can spell the word ‘independent’.

Unfortunately these three examples we’ve come across in recent days show that even getting the basics right on your campaign literature can prove difficult.

First up, meet Kevin Byrne who’s running in Baltinglass and says ‘I will try!’. But will he ever try and spell independent correctly?

Then there’s Declan Bree, an experienced campaigner, the joint longest-serving member of Sligo Borough Council and a former TD.

If he can’t get it right, what hope for the rest of them?

Clearly, Irish politics needs some more inde-pedants. Geddit?
