Your iPhone's photos app has a search feature that you may have overlooked

In fairness, it’s rather easy to miss.

IF YOU HAVE hundreds or thousands of photos saved on your phone, then you know how much of a chore it is to wade through them all to find one.

While iOS’ Photos app puts some of them into different folders, it’s not much use as the majority of photos are stored on your camera roll.

Yet the app comes with its own search feature which is easy to miss. Chances are you only access your photos through other apps like Instagram or go straight into camera roll without thinking about it, but search is a good way of speeding up the process, provided you have an idea of what you’re looking for.

Compared to Google Photos, it’s not as advanced, but it has enough functionality to be useful.

The search function is found beside the Select button at the top right-hand corner. If you tap on it, you can search for different things like a specific date, month or year, location and (if you have it activated in Photos on Mac) a specific person.

Provided you remember something about the photo, the place you went on holidays to or the month you did something, you’ll be able to filter it down and find the photos you want.

The location search is down to geotagging which is activated automatically, but if that bothers you, you can turn it off by going into Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Camera and tapping on Never.
