IRELAND’S COASTLINE IS populated with dozens of lighthouses, many of which have stood since the nineteenth century. They come in all different shapes and sizes, but each and every one is a sight to behold.

Here are some that stand out from the pack.

1. This wee lighthouse on Wicklow Harbour.

2. Ballycotton Lighthouse is one of just two lighthouses in Ireland to be painted black.

3. The lovely Clare Island Lighthouse, originally built in 1806, is now a popular guesthouse.

4. As is Fanad Lighthouse in Co Donegal.

5. Hook Lighthouse is the oldest operational lighthouse in the world.

6. Galley Head Lighthouse is a nineteenth century building perched on a cliff outside Rosscarbery, Co Cork.
