IRISH WATER HAS confirmed that its vans cover the company logos on a “case by case” basis.

A video showing two residents of Termon Abbey in Drogheda challenging a GMC Sierra contractor who has his signs covered has been shared on social media in the last 48 hours.

In the video, the man says he is reading water meters.

The two residents speak to the worker and ask why his signs are covered, but receive no answer.

Eventually, the GMC Sierra worker leaves the area, with one of the men telling the other to “follow him out”.

An Irish Water spokesperson today told that the company does cover signs, but not as a matter of habit.

“Staff make the decisions on a case by case basis where there may be a concern over health and safety.

“Staff can do it if they feel the need to.”
