AN IRISHMAN HAS died and another was injured following a crash in the French Alps over the weekend.

A 40-year-old man named widely as Ian Corcoran, from Kilrush in Co Clare, died after his car hit a tree in the early hours of Sunday morning. The car had come off the road at a popular ski destination in the Lake Geneva region.

French media reports that the Irish seasonal worker was cut from the wreckage at Samoens in Haute-Savoie and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second man was thrown from the vehicle, sustaining serious injuries. He is currently recovering in a nearby hospital.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that the families of both men have been informed and that consular assistance is being provided.
