Search underway for Irishman who went missing while swimming in Canada

A SEARCH IS underway in Canada for an Irishman who went missing while swimming on Friday.

The 26-year-old man was swimming with friends in a river in the Beaver Creek area of British Columbia on Friday afternoon when he disappeared.

A search was launched after his friends raised the alarm.

CBC News is reporting that two boats and an underwater recovery team are searching for the man. In a statement, police said the man’s family “have been offered support during this difficult time”.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs told “The department is aware of an incident in British Columbia involving an Irish citizen.

“Our Embassy in Ottawa is liaising closely with the local authorities and the department is providing consular assistance in this case.”
