Brace yourself: Jonathan the laughing seagull could be dead

The seagull was said to have had some enemies due to his habit of diving at joggers.

WATERFORD LOCALS ARE in a flap after it emerged that ‘local treasure’, a laughing seagull called Jonathan, might be dead.

Feathers and bird remains were discovered on the Ardkeen Roundabout this morning.

WLRFM, which brought the story of Jonathan to public attention earlier this week, also brought the news of his possible demise.

In photographs sent by the station to TheJournal.ie, feathers and a dead bird can clearly be seen.

But does this mean Jonathan has gone to the great birdhouse in the sky?

The station said there had been some threats about “sorting him out”, given the beaked botherer’s love for dive-bombing at joggers and ‘laughing’ about it afterwards.

The feathered creature is known for lounging on a lamppost on the Dunmore Road at the hospital roundabout at Collins Avenue.

Thankfully, there’s no confirmation that the dead bird is Jonathan just yet. The radio station is urging anyone with information to give them a squawk.

If it is Jonathan, there’s only question: Was it fowl play?
