GARDAÍ HAVE AGAIN appealed for help tracing Karen Scott, who has been missing since Friday.

The 44-year-old woman, who has Down syndrome, was last seen when she left her home in Finglas at 3.30pm on Friday 24 June.

“The last confirmed sighting of her was on Friday evening on Berkeley Road in Phibsborough,” Garda Inspector John Burke told reporters today.

“We’ve gotten calls from all across country of people fitting her description,” he added.

Though she has gone missing from home before, it was only ever for a few hours and she has never travelled beyond the city centre.

The missing woman had a red suitcase with her, with a number of items of clothing inside, including brightly-coloured tops in yellows, greens and blues. She also had a mini skirt and a pair of shorts.

Burke said it is possible Karen may now be wearing a different outfit to the one she wore when she went missing. When she left her home, she wore a peach-coloured hoody, black jeans and white runners.

Her description is as follows:

  • 5’4″ tall
  • Medium build
  • Blue eyes
  • Short, blonde hair

Karen Scott did not have a mobile phone with her, as Burke said she would not be very familiar with technology.

He said she may have had a small amount of money with her. Responding to reports Karen may have been asking people for money, the inspector said this is “a feature of her personality”.

However, gardaí have not received any reports of direct interaction between Karen Scott and members of the public.

He described the 44-year-old as “a very personable individual”, open and friendly and well-known in the area.

The missing woman’s family members are “very concerned” for her welfare, he said, adding that the community had rallied around them.

A team of around 50 people have been searching locations where there have been potential sightings of Karen.

Anyone who has any information about her whereabouts is asked to contact Finglas garda station on 01 6667500, the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
