KAT AND ALFIE Moon are set to take a break from Walford and attempt to start a new life in Ireland.

Eastenders’ bosses have said the popular couple will star in their own six-part series, but are not leaving the Square for good.

The creator of the spin-off, Dominic Treadwell-Collins, said audiences will witness “several huge twists for Kat and Alfie Moon that will change their lives forever” in the coming weeks.

“Now is the perfect time to take two of EastEnders’ most beloved and enduring characters out of their comfort zone as they head to Ireland to search for answers to some very big questions.

My team here are very excited about creating a whole new drama that stands apart from EastEnders while taking our style of storytelling to a place of stories, myth, secrets and immeasurable beauty.

Shane Richie, who plays Alfie, said it’s “a huge honour” to have a whole drama based around the pair, adding:  ”We just can’t wait to start filming.”

Meanwhile, Jessie Wallace said “exploring the next chapter for Kat” is “a dream come true and a huge compliment”.

The new series will consist of six hour-long episodes. It will start filming this autumn and air on BBC One next year.

Any excuse to play this:
