THE EDITOR OF the French gossip magazine Closer has defended her decision to publish topless pictures of the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton.

Laurence Pieau said that the reactions to the publication has been ‘disproportionate’ and said that the pictures are not degrading but ‘full of joy’.

She also said that the balcony Kate Middleton and Prince William were photographed on is visible from the street, and said that Middleton is a ’21st century princess’.

Meanwhile an Italian magazine has said that it’s planning to publish the pictures. The BBC reports that Chi is releasing a 26-page photo special of the royal couple next week.

St James’s Palace has said that legal proceedings against Closer have begun in France.
