BUSINESSMAN JIM KENNEDY, three former politicians and one sitting councillor are to face trial for corruption charges.

Three former Fianna Fáil councillors and one former Fine Gael TD are involved, RTÉ reports.

Former senator and councillor Don Lydon, former councillor Colm McGrath, Independent councillor Tony Fox and former Fine Gael TD Liam Cosgrave are charged with receiving corrupt payments in the 1990s in return for voting to rezone land in Carrickmines, Co Dublin.

Cosgrave was arrested earlier this week and charged with five offences, to which he replied “not guilty”.

Former councillor Sean Gilbride has been remanded on bail for three weeks on similar charges to the other four current and former politicians after the court heard today that he is in hospital.

Jim Kennedy is facing 16 charges relating to alleged payments made to politicians.
