THE STATE EXAMINATIONS Commission will this morning release details of the results of all appeals made regarding this year’s Leaving Cert.

Some 390,000 grades were issued for 58,466 students in August.

All students were given the opportunity to review their exam scripts and, if they wished, to appeal the result.

A total of 5,465 candidates made applications for upgrades against 9,500 grades leading to 1,698 upgrades, which represents 0.43% of all grades awarded.

By far the greatest number of appeals were seen in higher level English and Biology with 1,511 appeals and Biology with 1,079.

Honours Irish had 730 appeals, honours Maths 750, and honours Geography and honours Business were next ranked with 574 and 560 appeals each.

Students who are unhappy with their re-marked scripts can appeal once more by filling out an application form that should be present with their revised result.

Any such application needs to be returned to the SEC by 5pm on Tuesday 18 October.

Re-viewing of the re-marked script is also possible – any such viewings will happen on Saturday 22 October in SEC headquarters in Athlone, Co Westmeath.
