Leaving Cert students urged not to get completely wasted on results night

Results for 53,749 students will be available from tomorrow morning.

LEAVING CERTIFICATE STUDENTS have been urged not to get completely wasted after they collect their results tomorrow.

Results for 53,749 students will be available on Wednesday morning, and parents and alcohol awareness lobbying groups have urged teenagers to celebrate responsibly.

“We’re conscious that a significant number of Leaving Cert students are of legal drinking age and drink alcohol, and will most likely want to celebrate their results with a few drinks,” said Fionnuala Sheehan of “But it can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the night and end up overdoing it.”

She called on students to take measures – such as eating before they drink, drinking water, and avoiding rounds – to stay in control of how much they drink.

The National Parents’ Council singled out students who don’t do as well as they were expecting.  ”Remember that alcohol improves neither the good nor the bad in a situation,” said Jackie O’Callaghan of the National Parents’ Council. “There are always options”.
