LEO VARADKAR HAS been named Talter’s Man of the Year at the magazine’s inaugural awards.

The Health Minister was awarded the prize for his “honesty, bravery and integrity”.

Varadkar publicly came out earlier this year, ahead of the same-sex marriage referendum.

The awards were handed out to several Irish men at a ceremony in Dublin today.

Musician and mental health campaigner Bressie received the media award, while the sports accolade went to Kilkenny hurling manager Brian Cody and the music award was won by Cavan band The Strypes.

Gaelic games broadcaster Mícháel Ó Muircheartaigh was entered into the Irish Tatler Man of the Year Hall of Fame.

Ciaran Casey, CEO of Harmonia (which publishes Tatler Man), said the awards provided a platform to “applaud and thank male role models but most importantly showcase them to younger generation”.

The Irish Men’s Sheds Association, a community project that allows men of all ages to come together and discuss their lives and health in an open environment with their peers, was promoted at the ceremony.

The charity’s CEO Barry Sheridan said: “Men’s Sheds is all about bringing men together to talk about things that matter – like health, family, life – all the issues that men don’t talk about very openly but need a platform to discuss, and to also work on shared activities.”
