PATIENTS WILL BE able to self-present at the Emergency Department of Letterkenny General Hospital as of this afternoon.

The interim Emergency Department has been in operation since Saturday, but has only been accepting admissions from ambulances. The department had been closed for three weeks after suffering extensive flooding damage.

The hospital says that the interim facility is due to reopen from midday today.

The hospital added that non-emergency patients should continue to contact their own doctors and should not attend Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry.

A hospital spokesperson said the phased reopening of the hospital has been a success and work is ongoing to reopen the hospital to full capacity.
