Rescue in Limerick City last night as man enters River Shannon

The man entered the water from Sarsfield Bridge.

A MAN IN his 30s was hospitalised after being rescued from the River Shannon in Limerick City yesterday.

Three units from Limerick City Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at about 10.15 pm last night after a man in his late 30s was seen entering the water from Sarsfield Bridge.

Two firefighters went into the river in an attempt to help the man.

A fire services rescue boat was also launched and the man was then removed from the water after being stabilised by the firefighters in the river.

The man was then treated by paramedics at the scene before being removed to hospital.
