Man in his 40s to appear in court over fatal stabbing in Limerick pub

A MAN IN his 40s is set to appear at a sitting of Limerick District Court tomorrow morning charged in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city last weekend.

Patrick O’Connor, from Kileely, Limerick city, was stabbed in Fitzgerald’s Bar, in Thomondgate, around 11.55pm on Saturday.

The 24-year-old received serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital Limerick where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

A post-mortem was due to take place yesterday.

Speaking on Sunday, Superintendent Derek Smart, who is leading the investigation, confirmed he had begun a “murder investigation”, while appealing for witnesses who may have been in the pub at the time to come forward.

The man in his 40s was arrested yesterday and was being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

He is due to appear in court at 10.30am tomorrow morning.
