The props, which were donated by Steven Spielberg, were held back from a previous auction and will go towards the Wicklow Hospice Foundation.

MEMORABILIA FROM THE Oscar-winning film Lincoln will be auctioned online in aid of a Wicklow hospice following Daniel Day-Lewis’ gold statuette win.

The Wicklow Hospice Foundation has launched the online auction using props that Lincoln director Steven Spielberg donated from the multi-Oscar-nominated blockbuster to raise funds for the charity.

Auction

They held an auction at the international premiere of Lincoln in Dublin in January, at which over €100,000 was raised. The money goes towards Wicklow Hospice Foundation to help them build their long-awaited hospice facility. A site has been donated by the Columban Sisters at Magheramore Brittas Bay for the hospice.

A number of items were held back on the night to be auctioned following the Academy Awards and Wicklow Hospice is hopeful that Day-Lewis’ historic win will boost Irish and international interest in the remaining memorabilia.

The auction is now live on www.ashgrovegroup.ie. It includes:

  • Nine still photographs from the set of Lincoln signed by Daniel Day-Lewis and Steven Spielberg
  • Movie props including the Confederate Peace Proposal signed by Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis
  • A letter from Lincoln to Grant (also signed by the stars),
  • The “All men were created equal” sign (also signed)
  • A number of signed movie posters.

The auction is open to collectors until Friday March 1 at 2pm, and Ashgrove Auction Rooms are providing their services on a pro bono basis.

Day-Lewis lives in Co Wicklow when not filming and is the patron of the foundation.

Dr Brendan Cuddihy of Wicklow Hospice Foundation said:

Wicklow Hospice foundation is hoping that funds raised from the premiere and as a result of the publicity around the event will enable the charity to turn the sod on the new hospice this June. Currently people who live in Wicklow have to travel many miles further afield for respite and end of life treatment. To date the people of Wicklow have raised €2.65 million of the €3 million target to build the stand alone Hospice facility.
