GERALD FLEMING RAINED on everyone’s parade at the weekend, telling us we are not in the midst of a heatwave.

That does make sense when you look to Britain, where temperatures are set to reach 29 degrees today and 32 degrees tomorrow.

Despite the difference on this side of the Irish Sea, you might find yourself craving a trip to the beach later today.

Met Éireann is forecasting temperatures as high as 25 degrees later in the east of the country. Will this be the hottest day of the year?

The rest of the country could see at least 18 degrees, which isn’t anything to scoff at either.

However, there’s a band of cloud moving in from the Atlantic which is likely to prevent the sun from splitting stones in the west.

But remember, this is Ireland. The forecast also contains the words “rain”, “dizzle”, and “showers”, mainly aimed at the west and south.

Let’s just forget about that for a minute.
