A NEW DEVELOPMENT in the current Luas industrial action has seen the planned 8 March strike cancelled.

A statement from Transdev released this evening said that an agreement has been reached on entering talks:

Transdev has a duty to the public and Luas customers to resolve this dispute.
Transdev welcomes the opportunity to work with SIPTU’s proposal for Workplace Relations Commission talks.
Transdev anticipate these talks will be difficult and long, given the scale of the pay claim before the company and the expectations that have been created.
Transdev however believe the WRC will create the framework for positive discussions and look forward to a resolution in the weeks to come.
Transdev acknowledge strike action for next Tuesday 8 March 2016 has been cancelled. This is a welcome development.

Yesterday, Siptu announced that Luas drivers, who are seeking pay increases of between 8% and 53%, will strike on Easter Sunday and Monday.

These strike days have not been cancelled.

The talks are expected to begin on Monday at the Workplace Relations Commission.
