Man (30s) arrested in connection with theft of 18 cattle in west Cork

Gardaí located the stolen livestock yesterday.

A MAN HAS been arrested and 18 stolen cattle have been returned to their owner after they were recovered by gardaí yesterday.

Overnight on Monday 24 November, 12 Friesian heifers and six Friesian bulls, worth €30,000, were taken in a raid by cattle rustlers from a farm in the Lakelands area of Skibbereen, Co Cork.

Gardaí from the Serious Crime Units in Clonakilty, Bandon and Bantry, along with the Divisional Search Team and the Department of Agriculture, conducted a search operation in the Ballydehob area of West Cork.

They located the stolen livestock yesterday. Today, gardaí confirmed they have been returned to their owner and a man aged in his 30s has been arrested.

He is currently detained at a garda station in Co Cork under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
