A WOMAN (20s) was stabbed to death in Dublin yesterday, with a murder investigation underway.

One man, also aged in his 20s, was arrested and held at Finglas Garda Station for questioning. He remains in garda custody and can be held for up to 24 hours.

The stabbing took place in Melville Drive in Finglas at 2pm yesterday.

Emergency services attended the scene and the woman was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where she was pronounced dead.

It is understood that the woman knew her assailant.

It is believed that the victim had been held at the house for more than a day by the attacker before being killed.

Sources at the scene believe that one of her children was also present at the time of the killing.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have information on this incident to come forward, especially those who may have been in the Melville Drive area of Finglas between 1:30pm and 2:30pm this afternoon.
