Man in his 20s dies following morning collision on N17 in Galway

Three people have died on Irish roads in the last 24 hours.

A MAN IN his 20s has died following a collision between a car and a van on the N17 in Co Galway this morning.

The collision occurred shortly after 8am near Milltown.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was airlifted to University Hospital Galway with serious injuries.

A post-mortem examination will be carried out at the hospital.

The road between Milltown and Ballindine remains closed, as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a technical examination.

Diversions have been put in place at the Milltown roundabout in Tuam, Co Galway, and in Ballindine, Co Mayo.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward.

This incident is the third fatal road traffic collision in Ireland in less than 24 hours.

Yesterday, a cyclist in her 20s was killed in a collision with a truck in Cork City, and a man in his 40s died in Ballycotton after being struck by a dumper truck while carrying out works in the area.
