18-year-old dies after crash with tractor

Three other people were injured in the incident.

GARDAÍ ARE investigating after a young man died in a crash last night in Longford.

The 18-year-old was travelling as the front seat passenger in a car with three other people when it collided with a tractor on the N4 at Cloonart, Bornacoola,  in Longford at about 11.50pm last night.

The man was brought to Mullingar Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver and other passengers were also brought to Mullingar Hospital following the incident.

The driver and one passenger have what are described as minor injuries, while the other passenger is in a serious condition.

The driver of the tractor was uninjured.

The stretch of road where the crash happened has been closed to facilitate an examination by the garda forensic collision investigators.

Diversions are in place via Rooksy for people travelling from Sligo and Newtownforbes for traffic coming from Dublin.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Longford garda station on  043-3350570, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
