AN AUSTRIAN MAN is due at Ennis District Court this afternoon charged in connection with an incident on board a transatlantic flight this morning – which forced the plane to make an unscheduled landing at Shannon Airport.

Austrian Airlines flight OS94, flying from Washington Dulles to Vienna and carrying over 200 passengers, made an unscheduled landing at Shannon at around 7:05am.

The flight was met by Gardaí who arrested the 32-year-old passenger, who is to appear before a special sitting of Ennis District Court later today.

The flight had been diverted after the crew on board had reported what a Garda spokesman described as ‘unruly’ behaviour.

There were no injuries to passengers or crew, and the aircraft departed for Vienna shortly before 9am.

The flight was a codeshare with United Airlines (flight number UA 6712) and Lufthansa (LH 6471).
