Man due in court in connection with the murder of David Black

A 44-YEAR-old man is due to appear before the Special Criminal Court, Park Gate Street at 1pm today in connection with the murder of a prison officer in Northern Ireland.

Father of two, David Black was shot to death as he drove to work at Maghaberry jail via the M1 on 1 November 2012.

Gardai with the Special Detective Unit arrested the man in Dublin yesterday, along with a 33-year-old woman.

They were both brought to Ballymun Garda station for questioning and the woman was released without charge earlier today.

It is understood a car with Dublin registration places pulled up alongside the prison officer’s vehicle and opened fire. His car veered off the road and into a deep ditch. The victim died at the scene. A car thought to be linked to the shooting was found burnt-out in Lurgan later that day.
