A 49-YEAR -OLD MAN found dead at his home in Carrick on Suir in south Tipperary in the early hours of this morning has been named locally as bus driver Ian Walsh.

The former Irish Rail worker was found unresponsive at the property on the Cregg Road at 3.30am today. Family members raised the alarm and gardaí and the emergency services attended at the scene. Mr Walsh was pronounced dead by a local GP.  

A postmortem examination, which is set to be carried out at University Hospital Waterford, will determine the course of the Garda investigation. 

The scene has been preserved for a technical examination and the Office of the State Pathologist has been notified. It is understood Mr Walsh had a number of injuries. 

Gardaí are attempting to establish his last known movements. Door to door inquiries will be carried out in the estate where he lived.

Gardaí will also check CCTV security camera footage from houses in the area to determine any movements to and from the property. 

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information related to this incident to come forward, including any road users who were in the area of Cregg Road between 8pm on Friday and 3:30am today. 

Additionally, anyone who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and was travelling in the area at the time is asked to make it available to Gardaí.
