THREE PEOPLE HAVE been killed on the country’s roads this morning. Two men and one woman have died in separate road crashes in Galway, Wexford and Donegal.

A 42-year-old man died after he was struck by a car in a collision at Furbo in Spiddal, Co Galway while a 40-year-old man died in a single vehicle collision in Gorey, Co Wexford in which two other men were injured. Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman died following a two-car collision outside Donegal in which two other women were injured.

The 42-year-old man was a pedestrian on the Spiddal Road to Ballinahowen around three miles west of Barna when he was struck by a car at around 1.30am this morning. He was pronounced dead on the scene while the 19-year-old and sole occupant of the car was unharmed.

Diversions are in place with traffic travelling westwards asked to divert at Barna for Moycullen. While anyone travelling from the west is asked to turn left at Spiddal for Moycullen.

Meanwhile, in Wexford, the 40-year-old man died on the scene after a single vehicle collision at Ballyellen on the M11 between Arklow and Gorey at approximately 12.05am. The two other men, in their 30s, received minor injuries.

Diversions are in place with the road currently closed between exit 21 and 22, southbound to facilitate a forensic examination.

Meanwhile in Donegal,  a 26-year-old woman who was the sole occupant and driver of one car was fatally injured in a collision with another car on the Donegal town to Ballyshannon road, around three miles outside the town at approximately 9.40am.

Two women in the other car were injured and were treated for their non-life threatening injuries at Letterkenny Hospital.

Gardaí say the road is closed and diversions are in place.

They are appealing for witnesses to any of the three incidents to contact them.
