A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the murder of Gerard Donnelly (36) in the Phoenix Park last Friday.

Ciarán Moran, who is originally from Rathsallagh in Shankill but gave an address in Dublin’s city centre, appeared before Judge Ann Ryan at the Dublin District Court today.

The victim was found burned to death in the early hours of Friday morning. Two other people – a 20-year-old man and 17-year-old woman – have been arrested in relation to the killing.

The female remains in custody at Blanchardstown Garda Station, under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The man in his 20s has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Moran was arrested in Tallaght on Sunday and questioned at Finglas Garda Station, where he was held pending his appearance at the Criminal Courts of Justice today.

Media reports today suggest that Donnelly was a rough sleeper by choice and had access to large quantities of cash.
