POLICE IN MANCHESTER have located and arrested a man who had tried to sell a baby to passers-by yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after 2.30pm yesterday, a man with a baby in a pram approached another man on Deansgate near Barton Arcade in the city and apparently offered to sell him the baby.
Greater Manchster Police have now arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of child neglect. He remains in police custody for questioning.
The three-month-old baby girl is safe and well.
“We would like to thank members of the public and the media for their assistance in publicising the appeal,” said Detective Inspector Liam Boden.
We have now arrested a man on suspicion of child neglect and will be questioning him in relation to the incident as we try to establish the full circumstances.
The police had released the image of the man in an attempt to trace him yesterday afternoon.
“This is extremely unusual and at this time we are trying to establish the full circumstances of the situation,” said Sergeant David Henshall at the time.
