THE METROPOLITAN POLICE in the UK said they are going to assess the online abuse targeted at Kate and Gerry McCann.

A 67-page dossier detailing malicious internet postings has been sent to the Commissioner in Scotland Yard, reports Sky News.

The news channel went so far as tracking down one of the Twitter users and confronting her as to why she continues to level abuse at the parents of Madeleine McCann.

A group of web users compiled the report and said the abuse demonstrates an organised campaign of abuse, intimidation and threats against the McCanns.

They said they were appalled by some of the messages and are calling for a police investigation into what they describe as “internet trolls”.

Much of the abuse urges violence against Madeleine McCanns, which the group said they were “appalled” at, while other messages comment on why the parents left their children alone in the apartment that night.

The Met Police said that they have consulted with the Crown Prosecution Service and said they will assess the material before making a decision as to whether further action should be taken.
