MCDONALD’S IN IRELAND has no plans to display the calorie content of its food next to each item on menu boards despite a similar scheme being launched in the UK this week.

From Wednesday, the fast food giant will display the calorie count of each individual item on the wall-mounted menu boards behind their restaurant counters as part of a UK government led programme to fight obesity and promote healthy eating.

McDonald’s already puts calorie information on its website and on the back of tray liners but this is the first time the figures will be displayed with such prominence outside the United States.

However, a spokesperson for McDonald’s restaurants in Ireland told TheJournal.ie this morning there were no plans for a similar initiative in this country.
