THE CENTRAL Criminal Court has been hearing the closing arguments of legal representatives in the McGrath murder trial, RTÉ reports. Vera McGrath, 61, and her former son-in-law Colin Pinder, 47, are on trial for the murder of Mrs McGrath’s husband, Bernard Brian McGrath, on a date unknown between 10 March and 18 April, 1987.

Both have pleaded not guilty to the murder at the McGrath family’s home in Coole, Westmeath. Mr Pinder attempted to enter a guilty plea for manslaughter, but the State refused to accept it. The closing arguments are expected to continue tomorrow and the jury is expected to begin its deliberations from Monday.
