GARDAÍ ARE INVESTIGATING a fire in a department store in Edenderry, Co Offaly yesterday morning.

The blaze occurred in the early hours of the morning at McGreal’s on JKL Street.

A member of the McGreal family said this morning that the store is “totally gutted”.

The cause of the fire is unknown but gardaí said they are investigating.

It was a busy morning for gardaí in the small town with incidents reported at two other stores. There was a break-in at a service station but the thieves were disturbed before anything could be taken.

At the local Lidl store, a number of stock items were also stolen in the early hours of the morning. There is no indication at present that these three incidents are connected.
