Post mortem to be carried out on man found shot dead in Meath

The man was known to gardaí and was a suspect in the murder of Real IRA boss Alan Ryan.

A POST MORTEM will today be carried out on the body of a man found in a field in Meath yesterday.

The man is believed to have been shot a number of times in an apparent gangland execution.

Garda sources say that the man was due to be arrested in connection with the murder of Real IRA boss Alan Ryan. It is believed he had travelled to collect money from another group of men earlier in the week.

The body of the man, who was known to gardaí, was found by a farmer in a field in the area of Ballymaccan between Slane and Collon at around 5pm yesterday. The body was moved to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where a post mortem will take place this morning.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have any information on the incident or who may be able to help their investigations to contact Navan Garda Station on 046 9079930, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
