Two young men arrested after 18-year-old knocked down and killed

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.

TWO MEN HAVE been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a young man was killed in a road crash in Belfast in the early hours of this morning.

An 18-year-old man died after being knocked down on the Malone Road in South Belfast at around 2.25am.

He was hit by a white coloured Renault Van close to the entrance to Elm Village.

The two people in the van were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The man is assisting police with their enquiries.

A 19-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs. He remains in police custody.

The Malone Road remains closed country bound, but has now reopened city bound.

Chief Inspector Robert Murdie appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Malone Road around the time of the collision to contact the Collision Investigation Unit at Steeple Police Station or local Police at Musgrave Police Station on the non-emergency number 101.
