Photos: Men in burqas say 'Don't tell women what to wear, keep your eyes away'

They organised the march ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

DOZENS OF MEN took to the streets of Kabul today wearing burqas to campaign for women’s rights.

The Afghan men wore sky-blue burqas and said they wanted to draw attention to violence against women.

The demonstrators are associated with a group called Afghan Peace Volunteers. They held posters reading, “We say ‘no’ to all forms of violence.”

One group chanted, “Don’t tell women what to wear, keep your eyes away.”

In a report released last year, Human Rights Watch (HRW) said, “harassment on the street is a daily experience for women and girls and women who have sought help from the police in response to harassment and even threats have typically received no assistance.”
