THE DUBLIN PUB the Merrion Inn in Dublin 4 has been seriously damaged by a major fire which broke out at the premises overnight.
The Dublin Fire Brigade received an emergency call shortly after 4.10am today.
The fire spread through the roof of the building and at one point the fire service had four fire tenders, an aerial appliance and two water tankers attending the scene before bringing the blaze under control.
No one was in the building at the time.
One unit of the fire brigade remains at the scene and a spokesperson for the Dublin Fire Brigade told TheJournal.ie that the fire is close to being extinguished. The building’s roof has collapsed in.
A garage beside the Merrion Inn has escaped damage.
AA Roadwatch says that the Merrion Road is closed outbound between Nutley Lane and Merrion village due to the fire, but access to St Vincent’s Hospital is open.
