MICK WALLACE AND Clare Daly are to appear before Ennis District Court on Wednesday.

The Independent TDs were summonsed to appear following on from an incident on 22 July where they attempted to inspect two US military aircraft at Shannon Airport.

They were subsequently arrested.

Wallace told TheJournal.ie he and Daly will have “plenty to say in court”.

“The reason we went down [to the airport] was to highlight the fact that we’re allowing Shannon to be used a as a US military base,” Wallace said.

He called on gardaí and the Defence Forces to search the planes.

The Middle East is in the worst state it has been in the last 2000 years because of US involvement. IS (Islamic State) are a creation of the Iraq invasion.

Wallace said he was sure the media would accuse him of “not doing my job” due to being absent from the Dáil on Wednesday as a result of the court appearance.

However, he stated he’d also be viewed as “guilty” if he didn’t adhere to the court order.

Wallace said he had spoken in the chamber more than most other TDs on the issue of legislation since being elected in 2011, with his average attendance being around 220 days per year.

Edward Horgan of Shannonwatch said Wallace and Daly “wished to search these aircraft for the purposes of confirming whether they were involved in military operations, or were carrying weapons or munitions, or were engaged in activities that were not in accordance with the Irish Government’s stated policy of neutrality”.

“They were there to verify whether or not the planes were in accordance with US Government assurances to the Irish Government on such matters,” he added.

A spokesperson for Daly said she would not be commenting on the issue before the court appearance.
