THE SEARCH IS on in Antrim for a heavily pregnant horse which was stolen overnight from an animal sanctuary.

The mare, named River, was only recently rescued by the Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary.

She was taken overnight from a field at the sanctuary, near Ballynoe, sometime after 10pm.

It’s understood that River may have been taken as given she is so heavily pregnant she would have been the slowest of the horses present to run away.

According to vets at Crosskennan River is in the middle of a course of heavy medication which it is imperative she continues.

A spokesman for the PSNI said the force was appealing to anyone in the area who may have seen any suspicious activity to contact the police.

River is described as being a black and white piebald, 14.2 hands high.

Anyone with information is asked to call Northern Ireland Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 426 2/7/15, or Crosskennan Sanctuary directly on 028 944 65384.
