Mitt Romney uses U2's old tour plane to campaign for US presidency
THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE for the US presidency, Mitt Romney, is using an old U2 tour plane to campaign across the United States ahead of November’s election, it has been revealed.
Romney, his campaign entourage and the travelling press corp are flying across the States in an MD-83 that was previously used to transport Bono and the boys during their 360° tour in 2009, 2010 and 2011 while promoting their No Line on the Horizon album.
According to CNN, the plane was built in 1990 by the manufacturer McDonnell Douglas which has also built planes for the likes of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Scandinavian Airlines.
The plane was previously personalised for U2 and bore the lyric “The future needs a big kiss” from the U2 song ‘Get on Your Boots’ on its nose.
Now the aircraft, which was unveiled by the Romney campaign in Florida last week, is emblazoned with ‘Believe in America’ on its sides and an ‘R’ for Romney on its tails.
The Romney campaign did not return TheJournal.ie‘s request for comment on the plane and its history.
