Poll: Do you support the Moore Street occupation?
A GROUP OF protesters continued to occupy buildings on Dublin’s Moore Street this weekend over fears that planned construction work could destroy sites linked to the Easter Rising.
The group opposes plans to demolish buildings adjacent to the site of the former 1916 rebel headquarters – which they say are key to the contextualisation of the uprising – as part of the development of a new commemorative centre.
The Save Moore Street campaign has also called for a detailed and independent archaeological survey of the area.
But the Department of Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht says records show that the buildings at the centre of the protest are “not historically significant” and were in ruins by 1916.
This morning, we’re asking: Do you support the Moore Street occupation?
