BANK OF IRELAND has defended a tweet it sent about a young couple who saved for a mortgage deposit by moving back in with parents.

The ad faced criticism for suggesting that this option was being normalised by a financial institution, but the bank says it merely detailed the experience of the couple.

Recent studies have shown that house prices have become less affordable for young people than in previous decades.

Moving home out of rented accommodation is increasingly seen as a popular way of dealing with this, but is this fair on young people and their parents?
