THE TALLEST ACTIVE volcano in Europe, Mount Etna, has erupted several times so far this year with even Commander Chris Hadfield tweeting a pic of one volcanic event from the ISS.

Associated Press managed to capture some raw footage of the latest eruption in Sicily on Tuesday evening, as the volcano spewed lava and ash:

The small eruption did not disrupt air traffic from the airport at nearby Catania. This was not the case three weeks ago, when Etna shot flames high into the Sicilian night sky, as captured by Klaus Dorschfeldt from Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

The Institute said that the eruption over Tuesday night/ Wednesday morning was characterised by “high lava mountains” as well as lava flow and a column of ash that then fell around the area northeast of the volcano.
